City Generator: Building Improvements
Overview
The focus in this update is refining the building generation process. The primary goals were to enhance the overall quality of the generated buildings and to ensure that any buildings not meeting the predefined criteria are removed. Here’s a detailed look at what’s been improved:
Improvements and Changes
Shape checks
Each building undergoes several checks and removed if any of them are true. These checks marked in blue.
- Flatness: Buildings with high length-to-width ratios
- Length: Buildings that are excessively long
- Shape: If it looks more like a boomerang than a quad or triangle
Placement checks
Buildings incorrectly placed on the roads are also removed. A simple check is done to see if the build position overlaps with a road. Although sometimes a few buildings can still be missed, these are marked in red.
Visual identification of problematic buildings are highlighted in their corresponding colors to help identify the criteria it has not passed
Before and after comparison
- No checks
- Problematic buildings are highlighted
- Buildings removed
Currently still working on making buildings more than just white cubes and some other fun stuff.
Stay tuned for more updates, any feedback is appreciated!
